  4. This screen controls the settings that permit WinNET Mail to
  5. operate your modem to communicate with the WinNET
  6. server (or another server if you are not using 
  7. WinNET Communications' Internet service). 
  8.  
  9. The defaults will work for most modems, but please check:
  10.  
  11.    o  Internet Service Telephone Number.  If you are
  12.       not using WinNET Communications as your Internet provider, 
  13.       you will need to change this field to the telephone number of
  14.       your uucp provider.  
  15.  
  16.       If you are using WinNET Communications as your provider, 
  17.       and you are calling from outside the United States, you will
  18.       need to change this to our direct dial number.
  19.       Please see below for more information.
  20.  
  21.    o  Port Assignment.  Is this correct for your modem?
  22.    
  23. After your system is setup, you may want to re-run setup and
  24. increase the Interface speed if your modem and machine can
  25. support faster speeds.

  27. Fields:
  28.  
  29. 1.  Internet Service Telephone Number.  
  30.  
  31.     [Note: if you are not using WinNET Communications' Internet 
  32.     Service, please put the telephone number of your uucp
  33.     provider in this field] 
  34.  
  35.     WinNET Mail communicates with the WinNET server via
  36.     telephone.  The WinNET server telephone number is:

  38.                 1-800-800-1482
  39.  
  40.     Toll Free access includes Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto
  41.     Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Jamaica.
  42.  
  43.     For ISDN 64KB calls the number used is

  47.     If you are calling from outside this region, you
  48.     will need to change the WinNET Communications' Internet 
  49.     Service Telephone Number to the direct dial number, and 
  50.     add whatever international calling codes are required to place
  51.     a call to the United States.  The direct dial number

  69.     Things to remember:

  71.     A.  Some business lines require that you get an outside 
  72.         line first.  Often by dialing a 9, or an 8 first.

  83. 2.  Interface Speed.  This is the speed at which your
  84.     computer will talk with your modem.   This speed should
  85.     be as fast as your modem will support.  Please check
  86.     your modem manual.  Here are some typical speeds
  87.     supported by modems.

  103. 3.  Port Assignment.  Choose the Communication (COM) port  
  104.     that your modem uses: COM 1, 2, 3, or 4.
  105.     
  106.     If you are not sure, it is best to exit WinNET setup and
  107.     use the Windows Terminal program to test different ports.
  108.     From the Terminal program select menu "Setup", sub menu
  109.     "Communications...".  "Connector" is the COM port. 
  110.     "Baud Rate" corresponds to Interface speed for WinNET. 
  111.     When you have set up Terminal correctly, you should be
  112.     able to type "AT" followed by Enter on the main
  113.     Terminal screen and get back "OK" from the modem. 
  114.  
  115. 4.  Packet Window Size.  Normally, the default (5)
  116.     setting is OK for this.  Higher settings will tend to 
  117.     improve performance where there are good quality phone
  118.     connections or you are using error correcting modems.
  119.     Lower settings are better when there are noisier line
  120.     conditions. 
  121.  
  122. 5.  Set Factory Default AT Command.  This is the modem
  123.     command to reset your modem.   The default, ATZ, will
  124.     work for most modems setting the modem to either the
  125.     factory defaults or to the user saved profile.  On many
  126.     modems, AT&F, will set the modem to factory defaults.
  127.  
  128. 6.  Modem Setup AT Command.  These commands initialize your
  129.     modem with important settings for WinNET.   You must use
  130.     either the:
  131.  
  132.                 V1  -  English result codes, or
  133.                 V0  -  Numeric result codes
  134.  
  135.     in this command.  You may also want to turn off the
  136.     speaker by changing the default M1 command to M0.
  137.  
  138. 7.  CPU Utilization.  Lower settings cause WinNET to be
  139.     more cooperative in sharing computing resources with
  140.     other applications.  A higher setting can improve
  141.     performance somewhat. 
  142.  
  143. 8.  Dialing.  If you phone system does not support
  144.     Touch-Tone dialing, select Pulse (rotary).
